N-acetylcysteine (NAC) Follow
A specially modified form of the dietary amino acid cysteine. It is not found in food. When taken as a supplement, NAC is thought to help the body make the important antioxidant enzyme, glutathione. It has shown promise for a number of conditions, especially chronic bronchitis, and according to the Journal of Psychiatry & Neuroscience, it may also have benefits for psychiatric disorders as an alternative to drug therapies.
